Transit to SFO, OAK, and SJC Airports

Explore your transit options to SFO, OAK, and SJC!

Taking transit to the Bay Area's three international airports is the convenient way to go.

Getting to San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

SFO is the busiest airport in the Bay Area and the only one with a direct one-seat ride from Downtown Berkeley BART. The BART station at SFO is located in the International Terminal.

To get to the airport from Berkeley, board a Red Line train for direct service. The journey takes approximately 58 minutes. During times when the Red Line is not running (after 9pm), board a Berryessa-bound Orange Line train and transfer to a Yellow Line train at MacArthur (walk across the platform; this transfer is timed).

Taking AirTrain

AirTrain is the shuttle system that connects SFO's four terminals (1, 2, 3, and International), parking garages, and the rental car center with BART. AirTrain has two lines that run 24/7 in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The Red Line is the quickest way to get from BART to any of the terminals.

Getting to San Jose International Airport (SJC)

Getting to SJC on transit only requires one transfer! Board a Berryessa-bound Orange Line train and disembark at Milpitas. From there, catch a ride on VTA's Route 60 (Airport Flyer) to Terminals A and B. The BART ride takes approximately 64 minutes, and the bus ride is around half an hour. The Airport Flyer runs during the same hours as BART (5am-12am on weekdays, 6am-12am on Saturdays, and 8am-12am on Sundays).

Getting to Oakland International Airport (OAK)

OAK is the closest international airport to Berkeley and has direct BART access. To reach OAK from Berkeley, board a Berryessa-bound Orange Line train to Coliseum station. Walk up to the end of the platform (the same direction the train is heading) at Coliseum to reach the platform for the Oakland Airport Connector, which provides frequent service to the airport. The Connector runs every 9 minutes all day.

Keep in mind BART's operating hours when planning your journey!

BART runs during the following times:

  • Weekdays: 5am-midnight
  • Saturdays: 6am-midnight
  • Sundays: 8am-midnight

If your flight departs outside of these hours, you will need to find alternative transportation to get to the airport. Explore late-night buses offered by SFMTA, SamTrans and AC Transit as alternatives.
