Parking Citations and Enforcement

A valid parking permit for the area is required at all times.

Parking Enforcement

To ensure safe and efficient traffic on campus, all vehicles parking on the UC Berkeley campus must abide by the parking relatory signs posted at the entrance of each parking location. Violations of these parking regulations will result in citations and possible enforcement action.

The citation will contain information pertinent to the violation and fine amount.  The recipient will have to either pay or contest the citation within 21 calendar days

Permit Parking

  • A valid parking permit is required in all campus parking areas, including central campus, faculty/staff lots, and student lots.
  • Vehicles not displaying a valid permit for the area will be cited.
  • Parking regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round, including holidays.
  • Always check posted signs to avoid receiving a citation.

Public Parking

Hourly parking fees are required in all UC Berkeley public parking spaces.

  • Public parking areas may use:
    • Pay-by-space numbers, or

    • Pay-and-display tickets from a dispensing machine.

  • Vehicles are subject to citation if:
    • Time has expired in a pay-by-space lot, or

    • A valid pay-and-display ticket is not properly displayed.

  • Additional rules:
    • Most lots open for paid public parking after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.

    • All lots are closed from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
