When will construction begin, and how long will it take?

The current structure is scheduled to close on May 27, 2025, to begin demolition and site preparation. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed by August 2026, pending weather and site conditions.

How will parking be affected during construction?

During the closure, permit holders and daily parkers will need to use alternate parking locations on campus. Updated parking options and availability will be posted on the Parking & Transportation website as the project approaches.

How many parking spaces will the new structure provide?

It will provide:

Approximately 600 spaces
Minimum of 66 spaces ready for electric vehicle charging and another 66 spaces prepared for future installation of EV chargers
34 bike parking spots that will be card accessible only

The Bancroft project will not increase the overall number of parking spaces available on campus; rather it replaces most or all of the anticipated 600+ net loss of parking spaces projected for 2024-2026.

Will Electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure be included in the new structure?

The new design incorporates expanded electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with 66 parking spaces ready for immediate use and another 66 pre-wired for future installation. The project also aligns with UC Berkeley’s sustainability and climate action goals, emphasizing energy efficiency and reduced operational impacts.
