Paying Your Citation
Every citation lists the specific violation and the required fine amount. You have 21 calendar days from the issuance date to either pay the fine or contest the citation.
Consequences of Late Payment
If a citation is not paid or contested within the 21-day window, the following actions will be taken per DMV Vehicle Code:
-
Late Fee: A $54 penalty will be added to the original fine.
-
Registration Hold: A hold will be placed on your vehicle registration until all fines are settled.
-
Booting or Towing: If you have five or more citations unpaid for 30+ days, your vehicle may be immobilized (booted) or towed.
-
Note: To remove a boot, you must pay all outstanding fines plus a $35 administrative fee.
