Residence Hall Overnight Parking Permits (RH)

Residence Hall (RH) Overnight Parking Permits allow permit holders to park overnight in designated overnight parking spaces or facilities 24 hours a day and is available to eligible residents (see below, right).

2023-2024 RH Permit Pricing: $1,632.00 + 10% City of Berkeley Parking Tax = $1,795.20 per year (effective 7/1/23)

This pricing covers purchases from 7/1/23 through 6/30/24.  Purchases made after 7/1/23 are prorated according to the date of purchase.

Current Updates

8/21/23: We are continuously accepting new applications at this time and all new residents will be assigned to the Clark Kerr Campus as all other overnight parking facilities are fully reserved.  Residents who apply on or after 8/1/23 will no longer be automatically waitlisted for a closer overnight parking facility because all waitlists are full.

Applying for Residence Hall (RH) Overnight Parking Permits

Applying for an RH Permit reserves an overnight parking space and there is no obligation to purchase a permit if you change your mind about bringing a vehicle to campus.

  • Complete and submit the Residence Hall Parking Application along with your proof of housing contract to prktrans@berkeley.edu.
  • An acceptable proof of housing contract must include the residence name and contract dates in the form of an e-mail confirmation, screenshot from your student portal, or other equivalent documentation.
  • If you do not have a local address, please enter the address where you are currently residing, but be sure to enter your residence hall or apartment assignment where indicated.
Eligibility:

"RH" permits are only available for purchase by residents of the Residential Halls, Apartments, and Affiliated Properties specified on the right.  A valid Cal Housing contract for the current academic year will be required to be submitted prior to completing the purchase.  For students not eligible to purchase the Residence Hall ("RH") permit, overnight parking may be available at the Stadium Parking Garage (2175 Gayley Rd), City of Berkeley Parking Garages and Lots, or Craigslist.  (Our office does not maintain a list of off-campus parking providers, but a web search for "Berkeley Monthly Parking" will yield results for such providers.)

Rules:

"RH" permits will be issued for overnight parking in designated spaces at one of the following locations:

  • Ellsworth Structure (19 spaces)
  • Haste/Channing Garage (36 spaces)
  • Foothill Lot (14 spaces)
  • Clark Kerr Campus (Northwest & Southwest Lots; 111 spaces)

"RH" permits are assigned to a single parking facility and can not be used at any other parking facility on weekdays between 5:00 am-5:00 pm and everyday between 2:00-5:00 am ("RH" permits are honored in 'C', 'F', 'H', and 'S' spaces on weekdays between 5:00 pm-2:00 am and on weekends between 5:00 am-2:00 am).  However, during Cal Football game days and other special events, subject to posted signs and announcements, "RH" permit holders may be required to temporarily relocate their vehicles to another designated parking facility for the duration of the game day or event.
