UC Berkeley Campus Bicycle Plan
About the Campus Bicycle Plan
In August 2006, the Parking & Transportation department (P&T) released the first comprehensive Campus Bicycle Plan for UC Berkeley. The purpose of the plan is to improve bicycle access for students, faculty, staff and visitors. A bikeway network, bicycle parking, transit access, amenities and improvements, programs, design guidelines, an implementation plan, and priorities are all addressed.
The Campus Bicycle Plan embodies UC Berkeley's commitment to support bicycling to, from, and on the Berkeley campus. It organizes and consolidates previously scattered approaches and responsibilities into a comprehensive document that gives direction to University administration, planning and design staff, and design consultants. The Plan also strives to better integrate the campus into the larger urban region, linking it with the City of Berkeley's larger bicycle network, and the bay area's regional bicycle infrastructure.
It is anticipated that the plan's implementation will result in an increased number of commuters choosing to bicycle to/from campus.
The Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA) provided grant funds to develop the Bicycle Plan for UC Berkeley. For more information on ACTIA and the Measure B funds supporting this project, visit the ACTIA website.
