Through the New Directions Program, P&T rewards an alternative commute to campus by offering transit and parking discounts.
Program Benefits
Class Pass
The Student AC Transit Pass
- The Class Pass allows registered students to ride free of charge on AC Transit (including the Transbay lines to San Francisco) and BearTransit campus shuttles all semester long. Our Class Pass page has details on eligibility, program information, and how to get your pass.
BART Ticket Discounts
- P&T offers a discount for registered UC Berkeley students on High Value BART tickets. Purchase a $48 value ticket (normally sold for $45) with a $2 discount: you pay only $43!
To purchase, bring your Cal Photo ID to the Parking & Transportation office.
Bicycle Programs
- You can find details of our bicycle programs and publications at our Bicycle Information page.
Discount Parking for Carpools
- The Carpool Program offers discounts on parking to those who carpool, whether a student or employee. To qualify for the Student Carpool permit, you must be a current UC Berkeley student. Carpoolers are not required to pay the $36 annual transportation fee.
Lot Access and How to Use the Permit
- The Carpool Program allows individuals to purchase a carpool permit with the level of lot access to which they are entitled ("C", "F", or "S" lots). Two carpool permits must be displayed in a vehicle to be considered a carpool. Students and employees may carpool together. Any two or more carpool permit holders traveling together become a carpool with parking access to the highest level of carpool permit displayed.
- If you cannot carpool on a given day, you may display your individual carpool permit along with a daily dispensing machine ticket (DMT) from one of the machines in the lot. Daily permits can be purchased at P&T. Parking as an individual is limited to spaces determined by the level of the carpool permit issued, ("C", "F", or "S" spaces).
Reserved carpool parking spaces until 10:00am
- Reserved carpool parking spaces are available throughout the campus. These reserved spaces are open to all carpoolers on a first-come first served basis, on weekdays until 10:00am, and not assigned to specific carpool groups. See the campus parking map for carpool space locations.
Finding carpool partners
- You can find possible carpool mates from your area through the regional ride matching system. Get your match list on-line at through 511.org or call 511.
Carpool Permits and Pricing
- Current student permit prices and lot access information can be found on the Product List Page.
