Parking Permit Rule List
Parking permits are issued based on the following criteria:
- Timeframe (peak/off-peak hours)
- Duration (hourly, daily, monthly, annual or occasional/temporary use)
- Eligibility (student, faculty/staff, department, alumni/emeriti, invited guest, visitor)
- User type (individual, group/club, vendor/contractor, carpool/vanpool, disabled driver)
- Campus facility (classroom units, central campus, halls of residence, storage lots)
- Vehicle type (automobile, motorcycle)
Faculty/Staff Permits

| •Applies Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. •These permits are valid in C, F, and S lots, subject to posted signs. •After 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends, permit holder may park in carpool spaces, in any lot. Central Campus Annual Permits are valid in Special Event lots. •The number of spaces available during special events is subject to event type. |

| Central "C" Campus Carpool Permit | • Each member of the carpool should have a carpool permit. • A minimum of two (2) permits must be visibly displayed. • In the absence of the second carpool member’s permit, a Dispensing Machine Ticket (DMT), or a scratch-off coupon/permit (“C” and “F” permit holders only), must be purchased and visibly displayed. • In a mixed eligibility carpool - a carpool made up of persons with varied parking eligibility, e.g., a Central Campus eligible person, a Faculty/Staff eligible person, and/or a Student – the vehicle may be parked in the highest parking eligibility lot/area, so long as that carpool permit is one of the ones displayed. • We recommend that either all permits be placed, face up, on the driver’s side of the dashboard, or that one permit be visibly displayed from the rearview mirror, and the other permit(s) be placed, face up, on the driver’s side of the dashboard. |
| Faculty/Staff "F" Permit (Annual) | •Applies Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. • Permits are valid, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in any designated Faculty/Staff (F) or (H) lot. • After 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday, these permits are valid in “F” carpool spaces, Student Fee Lots, and Satellite lots. • After 5:00 PM, and on weekends, these permits are valid in Central Campus lots, subject to posted requirements. |

| Night/Weekend Permit | • F Nights/Weekends permits are valid, Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM to 2:00 AM, or time indicated on the permit. • Permits are valid in “F” lots, subject to posted requirements, and all day, on weekends. |
| Emeriti | These permits are valid in C, F, and S lots, subject to posted signs. After 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends, permit holder may park in carpool spaces, in any lot. Central Campus Annual Permits are valid in Special Event lots. The number of spaces available during special events is subject to event type. |
Student Permits
| Student "S" Permit | • These permits are valid, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in any designated Student lot. • After 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday, these permits are valid in “S” carpool spaces. After 5:00 PM, and all day on weekends, these permits are valid in Central Campus or Faculty/Staff lots, subject to posted requirements. • Between Fall/Spring Semesters, expired permits revert to “Daily” permits and are valid only with the purchase of Dispensing Machine Ticket (DMT). |
| Student "S" Carpool Permit | • Each member of the carpool should have a carpool permit. • A minimum of two (2) permits must be visibly displayed. In the absence of the second carpool member’s permit, a Dispensing Machine Ticket (DMT), or a scratch-off coupon/permit (“C” and “F” permit holders only), must be purchased and visibly displayed. • In a mixed eligibility carpool - a carpool made up of persons with varied parking eligibility, e.g., a Central Campus eligible person, a Faculty/Staff eligible person, and/or a Student – the vehicle may be parked in the highest parking eligibility lot/area, so long as that carpool permit is one of the ones displayed. • We recommend that either all permits be placed, face up, on the driver’s side of the dashboard, or that one permit be visibly displayed from the rearview mirror, and the other permit(s) be placed, face up, on the driver’s side of the dashboard. |
| Student "S" Night/Weekend Permit | • These permits are valid, in “S” lots, subject to posted requirements, Monday through Friday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM, or length of time indicated on the permit. On weekends, these permits are valid all day. • On football game days, and other special events, subject to posting, vehicles may need to be relocated. |
| Residence Hall "RH" Permit | • These permits are valid in the following locations: Clark Kerr Campus, in designated “RH” spaces, Foothill Lot, Haste/Channing Lot, as designated, Ellsworth Structure, as designated with Zone “C”, Manville Lot, and Smyth-Fernwald, as designated “Smyth.” • Permits with stickers are valid only in the designated lot(s). On football game days, and other special events, subject to posting, vehicles may need to be relocated. |
Other Permits
| Satellite Annual | • These permits are valid Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the following lots: Richmond Field Station, Poultry Husbandry, and Marchant Lots, as designated. |
| Hill Permit | • These permits are valid only in Hill parking lots, Monday through Friday. • After 5:00 PM, and on weekends, “H” permits are valid in “C,” “F,” or “S” lots, subject to posted signs. |
| Motorcyle | • Motorcycles must park in M/C designated areas and are not valid in a car space. • Convertibles are valid in loading zones and car spaces after 5pm. • Not valid in designated reserved spaces • Not valid in red zones or unmarked spaces |
Daily Scratcher Permits
- Patron is only allowed up to 48 daily permit per year
- Permit is not valid in public parking lots, meters, or areas designated as timed parking (unless otherwise posted).
- Must obey posted regulations
- Valid in C, F, S lots and loading zones after 5pm and on weekends, subject to posted signs
- Not valid in designated reserved spaces
- Not valid in red zone or unmarked spaces
- Not valid 2am to 5am
- Resale or duplication of permits are prohibited.
- Not valid on Football Game Days

| Alternative Transportation Faculty/Staff "F" | • Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm: • Permit is valid in any designated Faculty/Staff (F) or Student (S) Lots (as noted on permit). • Monday to Friday, after 10am permit is valid in F or S carpool spaces. • After 5pm and on weekends, permit holders may park in Central Campus and F lots subject to posted requirements. |

| Hill | • Permit is valid 7am to 5pm at the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS), Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) or in the Botanical Gardens Lot. Restrictions • After 5pm and weekends H permit holders may park in any C, F, or S lots, subject to posted restrictions. |
| Night/Weekend | • Monday to Friday, after 4:30pm and on weekends, permit is valid in any lot subject to posted requirements. |
| Construction | • Permit is valid only in designated lot. |
Disabled Parking
- For permanently or temporarily disabled campus affiliates - purchase according to your affiliation (Faculty/Staff, Student, etc.)
- Proof of eligibility required before purchase
- Allows parking in marked Disabled Parking (DP) spaces throughout campus
About State Placards and the UC Berkeley Disabled Parking
- State DP permits and license plates are not honored on campus unless accompanied by a campus-issued parking permit.
- The California State placard is honored in marked campus DP spaces, and only in conjunction with campus-issued parking permits or with payment in a campus facility offering hourly or event parking.
- Disabled campus visitors who do not currently possess a California State placard and who require special parking arrangements should contact the Disability Resolution Officer by phone at (510) 642-2795 or by e-mail at esc@berkeley.edu prior to arriving on campus.
