The P&T Student Worker Program

UC Berkeley’s Department of Parking & Transportation (P&T) established the Student Worker Program to support its Special Events unit, which coordinates parking needs for a wide variety of campus activities. Our Student Worker Program offers students some the most convenient and flexible part-time work on campus. We’re proud of our committment to customer service, and are looking for students who can help make parking on campus a breeze for their fellow students, fans of Cal athletics, and campus visitors from far and wide.

Training and duties

The program will provide student employees with both field and classroom training, giving them the information they need to navigate campus parking policy and recognize over 30 types of parking permits.

Types of Special Events we staff

Here is a sampling of the campus events that require parking staff:

• Athletics
• Weddings
• Cal Performances
• Greek Theater concerts and speakers
• Graduation
• Cal Day
• Move-In day

Parking lot assistants

Staffing campus parking lots during Special Events, the lot assistants can be responsible for selling permits, issuing pre-paid parking permits. Assistants need to be aware of the many types of parking permits, and keep parking in campus lots limited to permit holders.

Kiosk attendants

Stationed in the East and West Gate kiosks, these attendants are often UC Berkeley’s first point of contact with prospective students, donors, or distinguished visitors. Kiosk attendants may need to help visitors with:

• Best places to park when visiting campus
• General information on campus points of interest

Student leaders

The Student Worker Program is also recruiting administrative assistants for work in the P&T office on Kittredge Street.

Pay scale and hours

• Starting at $10.75 per hour
• Flex-time up to 19 1/2 hours per week
