New Parking Policy at Richmond Field Station
As of November 1, 2006 parking lots will require permits

Purchase Satellite Permit, Daily Passes, or display other campus permits.

Overview of Richmond Field Station (RFS) Parking Policy   October 25, 2006

As of November 1, 2006, Richmond Field Station (RFS) parking lots will require permits.

  • Use the Satellite Permit ($60 per year).
  • Other regular campus permits are also honored at RFS.
  • Visitor parking is easy with a fifty-cent Daily Pass available at the gate.

The Satellite Permit

Non-exempt vehicles parking at RFS lots must display a valid permit, such as the Satellite Parking Permit (also known as the RM Permit). The Satellite permit is sold on a yearly basis and costs $60. For UC Berkeley career employees paying in installments by Automatic Payroll Deduction, the pretax purchase further lowers it to less than $5 per month Net cost. Other RFS employees (i.e., non-UC) may purchase Satellite Parking Permits by cash, check, or credit card, but will need to pay the full $60 at time of purchase.

Other valid permits

The following regular campus permits are also valid in RFS lots:

  • C, F, H , S, Emeriti

View the P&T Product List page for cost and description of campus parking permits.

Parking for visitors and daily guests

Visitors are allowed a 20-minute grace period for loading/unloading.

Guests staying longer than 20 minutes need to display a Daily Pass.

Individual visitors paying with cash can purchase Daily Passes for fifty-cents per day from the Dispensing Machine installed near the entry gate. The machine accepts quarters.

All RFS tenants expecting several visitors over the year are encouraged to purchase their RFS Daily Passes in bulk. UCB departments may pay for these Daily Passes via interdepartmental charge. Other organizations at RFS can purchase with cash or check.

Conferences and other workshops held at RFS are likely to significantly increase demand for parking. Departments should contact P&T in advance of the event and request an exception if they anticipate that total Daily Passes needed will exceed 25 permits per month.

NOTE: As university regulations prohibit the use of university funds to pay for employee parking, Daily Passes are to be used by RFS guests only.

View the P&T Visitor Parking page for further information on arranging for guest parking in campus lots.

Exceptions and Exemptions

Reserved parking and EPA exception

UC departments at RFS can purchase Departmental Reserved spaces for $100 per year.
Some areas of the RFS lots are under the jurisdiction of the EPA. Parking in those areas is subject to EPA control.

Exempt vehicles

Vehicles that do not have to display a permit:

  • Campus Vehicles with exempt plates
  • Vehicles that do not require license plates (such as golf carts)

Exempt times
