New Visitor Parking Procedures for Departments
Cash Payments No Longer Accepted at East Gate and West Gate Kiosks

New visitor parking procedures and parking Kiosk operations at the East Gate & the West Gate

Letter of Announcement   September 7, 2006

To: Deans and Directors, Campus Departments Requesting Visiting Parking
From: Parking & Transportation
Subject:  New visitor parking procedures and parking Kiosk operations at the East Gate & the West Gate

As of September 18, 2006, Parking and Transportation will  no longer accept cash payments at the West Gate and the East Gate Kiosks. This change is  necessary to protect the safety and security of both our staff and our funds. However, we want to make you aware of a variety of options that can maintain flexibility for you and your visitors.

You have the following options for expected visitors to your department:

Direct your visitor to one of the public parking lots on campus
(http://pt.berkeley.edu/parking/public-visitors/index.html)

Or

Your department can purchase visitor parking passes in advance.  Parking passes are $13.00 and are for visitors only, and may not to be used by employees or students.  You can then provide a pass to your visitor prior to the visit. There is no limit to how many permits you may purchase.

Note: We strongly encourage you to purchase your parking permits in bulk based on your past needs.

Other options include:

If you are not able to provide the parking pass to your visitor in advance, you can drop a daily pass off at the East Gate or West Gate Kiosk.  Include the visitor’s name, departmental contact information (including name and phone number), and a self-addressed campus mail envelope.  (The envelope is needed so that parking passes not claimed can be returned to you via campus mail.)

Or

Tell your visitor to pick up the pass at your office.  When they arrive at the Kiosk, your visitor should provide the attendant with a destination building/department names and the name of a contact person.  Your guest will be provided with a 20 minute Guest Pass that must be displayed while obtaining the permit from you.  They need to hang the visitor pass in their vehicle, as the 20 minute pass will be expired.

Or

If your visitor is to pay for their own parking pass, you can direct them to the West Gate Kiosk.  (They must enter at the West Gate for this option. ) Again, your visitor would provide the attendant with a destination building/department names and the name of a contact person.  Your guest will be provided with a Guest Pass that they must display along with a $13 daily ticket that they can buy at the parking machine located at the West Gate Kiosk.  Both the Guest pass and the daily ticket must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.

Please note: the parking machine does not give change.

Along with these changes, the Kiosks will now close at 5:00pm daily.  After 5:00pm, campus rates apply and can be purchased at any parking machine. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience during the transition.  If you have any questions, please call our office at 642-1201.
