Changes in Attended Parking Operations
About Attended Parking
Many parking lots on campus utilize attended or "stack" parking, which accommodates over a thousand additional cars into the campus parking system. In Spring 2006, the Parking & Transportation Department (P&T) made adjustments to attendant parking services in some lots. These changes were made to better utilize existing spaces, and reduce costs that contribute to increased parking rates.
Based on user counts taken twice per day during the Fall Semester, P&T implemented a system to advise users of the nearest available parking when a lot is full. The counts, which were taken at 10 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m., showed that there was capacity for parking throughout the campus parking system, but not always in lots where P&T traditionally provided attendants.

Using the New Attendant Parking System
If you encounter a sign at your preferred lot showing that the lot is full, the campus parking sign at the entrance will indicate the nearest lot with available spaces. Sign updates are posted every 30 minutes. If you find it necessary to park in a lot other than your preferred location, BearTransit campus shuttles offer free service around campus and to a stop near to your destination.
P&T continues to evaluate parking space counts, to anticipate affects on parking demand based on changes in faculty, staff and student schedules. This semester, we made four changes in our schedule to add attendants in response to increased demand.
